2011, the year B2B companies stopped and listened
It was beginning to become more and more apparent towards the end of 2010 that companies were starting to re-evaluate how they used social media and discovering that listening was just as important as broadcasting. I won't try and hide the facts, this blog did the very same. Strategists began to realise the value in reaching out to the pool of online knowledge rather than just adding to it.
I think B2B content will change massively in the coming year. Yes, the need to score highly in search engines will keep the desire for regular content, driven by key phrases and trends, but I think more and more companies will scrutinise that content and take it towards an entertainment based model.
The social media revolution has turned everyone into a publisher. No matter what you're selling, or pushing online, unless you're entertaining you won't be singled out from the crowd. A publisher's job is to sell content, and that's exactly what we're all doing. This brings in the element of listening. What do people want to see? What will your audience respond to? What will bring them back again and again? With so much choice out there, you've got to be sure of your market.
In 2011 companies will track competitors, listen to customers, take advice from experts in the field far more than in previous years. Without listening, there will be no success with publishing. Because things just move on all too quickly now (Just ask Mark Zuckerberg how he's been since 2004)
This blog has listened as I'm sure you'll have noticed by some changes in content and delivery. But we'll continue to listen, because things can progress very quickly. If you're not listening in 2011, then you could be in for a very frustrating year.

This is an informative post on what to expect on B2B in the future. I believe there will be more competition in the industry, and social media will play a big role in it.
I have a feeling that B2B will come strong and make it's mark this year. It's been effective over the past years, only that very little people have noticed it. I'm sure that this commerce transactions between business will now be fundamental in the industry.
